The very first Miss Macau pageant was held in 1972 by the Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau
with the winner then representing Macau at the Miss Portugal pageant. There were 20 applicants, all Portuguese
with only 1 actually born in Macau. A semi-final was held to narrow down the field to 12 Finalists. In the end,
the winner was 19 year-old student Anabela Costa. Anabela stands 5'4" tall, weighs 104 lbs and her vital statistics are 34"-24"-35". Her prizes included $10,000 patacas, an Omega watch, a make-up set and other valuables.
Anabela went on to win the Miss Congeniality award at the Miss Portugal pageant .
